Polymarket vs Kalshi: Bitcoin Up or Down markets

Polymarket and Kalshi both run short-term Bitcoin up-or-down markets that pay $1 a share, but they differ in how they set the price to beat, settle results and charge fees. Here's how each works and how they compare.

Polymarket Bitcoin Up or Down markets explained

Polymarket lists Bitcoin Up or Down markets in several window lengths, including 5-minute and 15-minute versions. Each round's price to beat comes from the Chainlink BTC/USD data stream, ties go to Up, and winning shares settle at $1. The same 5-minute market is also offered to eligible KuCoin users through KuCoin Predictions, paid in USDT (KuCoin's guide). Traders buy UP or DOWN shares priced between 1¢ and 99¢ and can sell before the close.

60sBTC copies that structure: a price to beat, a fixed end time, two sides that add up to about $1, and the ability to sell before the close. If you're looking for a Polymarket simulator or a way to practise Polymarket BTC up or down without funding an account, this is it. Prices here come from a model rather than Polymarket's order book.

Kalshi 15-minute Bitcoin markets explained

Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated US exchange, and its 15-minute Bitcoin series opens a new up-or-down window every quarter hour, 96 a day. Each window pays $1 on the winning side (summary of the series rules):

  • Target: the previous window's final value becomes the next window's price to beat.
  • Settlement: the CF Benchmarks Bitcoin Real-Time Index (BRTI), averaged over the window's final 60 seconds.
  • Ties: YES wins if the final value is at least the target.
  • Trading: orders stop at each window's close, and markets usually settle within seconds.

60sBTC is a free way to practise that Kalshi-style Bitcoin format with play money. It is not connected to Kalshi, and Kalshi's contract terms can change, so always read the current rules.
